Many of our GDS teachers will do private lessons. The typical rate for a private lesson is $50 to $70 per hour, rates are up to the individual teacher, and times should be worked out with each individual teacher. If you wish to do your lesson at Glenwood Dance Studio please note that we charge $10 per hour to rent the studio.

Brooke Winegardner: Tap, Jazz, and Ballet

Brooke is available for private lessons in tap, jazz, and ballet. Lessons can be at GDS or at the Incite Dance Center in Skokie. Brooke teaches all levels. Her rate is $1 a minute ($60 per hour, $45 for 45 minutes, $30 for 30 minutes) and she will let two students share one lesson to keep costs down.

From Brooke: “I have a degree in dance and arts management and I have been teaching for almost 15 years. I love working with dancers to help them meet their goals and build confidence. I tailor all of my private lessons to the individual student and meet them where they are in the moment.”

Katie DeSalvo: Social Dance, Wedding Dance, and Performance Coaching

Katie DeSalvo is available for private lessons for choreographed wedding routines, social ballroom, performance tools for artists, or mind/body integration for the dancer. Her rate is $1 a minute ($60 per hour, $45 for 45 minutes, $30 for 30 minutes), and she is available for in-studio or at-home lessons.

Katie loves individualizing her choreography and lessons to the student’s needs and she excels when the students are creatively open and curious about the process. Her topmost values are inclusivity and authenticity.

Ginger Jensen: Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Pointe, and Tap

Ginger Jensen is available for private lessons in all levels of ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, and pointe, and basic/low intermediate tap. Lessons can be done at GDS, online, or in-home depending on the location. Her rate is $1 a minute ($60 per hour, $45 for 45 minutes, $30 for 30 minutes), with a surcharge for travel time to in-home locations. If it’s a lesson including two people, the price changes to $80 per hour. 

Ginger loves working one-on-one with students who have a desire for a deeper understanding of the technical aspects of dance and self-expression, while encouraging a more humane connection to the body and movement. Her approach often incorporates humor and synthesizes decades of experience, allowing students to connect with the material on a human level. She cultivates a deeper understanding of one’s unique movement voice.

Judy Burke: Ballet, Tap, Wedding Dance, Hustle, and Swing

Judy is available for private lessons in ballet, tap, wedding prep (bride/groom, mother/son, father/daughter), hustle, and swing. Lessons can be done at GDS, or students can arrange another venue. Judy teaches students at all levels, but especially loves to teach beginners. Students are welcome to share a lesson with another dancer.

From Judy: “I love teaching adults, as they truly want to be in class and learn. I created and ran programs in upstate New York, New Hampshire, Virginia, Washington, DC, and now in Chicago. I have trained in ballet, jazz, tap, and social dance, performed in regional ballet, tap, and modern companies, and competed on the National Swing Circuit for ten years. I believe it is never too late to start to dance.”
